CSC's The Cherry Orchard, Starring Dianne Wiest, Extends Before Previews Begin

Two days before its first preview, Classic Stage Company’s revival of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard has gotten a one-week extension, through December 30. The starry production is set to begin performances at CSC's off-Broadway theater on November 16 and open on December 4, directed by Andrei Belgrader.

The Cherry Orchard will feature John Turturro (Lopakhin), Dianne Wiest (Ranevskaya), Ken Cheeseman (Pischick), Daniel Davis (Gaev), Alvin Epstein (Fiers), Josh Hamilton (Trofimov), Slate Holmgren (Yasha), Roberta Maxwell (Charlotta), Juliet Rylance (Varya), Michael Urie (Yepikhodov), Elisabeth Waterston (Dunyasha) and Katherine Waterston (Anya). CSC’s production will be performed with a translation by John Christopher Jones.

First presented in 1904 at the Moscow Art Theatre, The Cherry Orchard was Chekhov’s final play. This production completes CSC’s acclaimed Chekhov Cycle, which included The Seagull (with Wiest and Alan Cumming), Uncle Vanya (with Denis O’Hare, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard) and Three Sisters (with Gyllenhaal, Jessica Hecht, Juliet Rylance and Sarsgaard).

The creative team for The Cherry Orchard will include scenic design Santo Loquasto, costume design by Marco Piemontese, lighting design by James F. Ingalls, hair design by Paul Huntley and original music by Christian Frederickson and Ryan Rumery.
